However downhill skiing is not being reintroduced this summer and it appears Glacier 3000 is joining Verbier, St Moritz, Alagna, Marmolada, Alpe d'Huez La Plagne and Val Thorens who have all ceased offering summer skiing in recent years.

Currently there are excellent conditions on the glacier with 3m (10 foot) snow depths and the area will be open for skiers and boarders to May 6th.

"Skiing will restart around middle of October, depending on snow conditions. From that time onwards the skilifts on the glacier should be open. The official start up for the winter season 2007/08 - time, when we hope to be able to open the remaining ski runs, is planned by end of November / beginning of December." Said a resort spokeswoman.
