Ischgl, in the Austrian Tirol, is renowned for a five month long ski season, extensive skiing and boarding on snow-sure slopes, lively apres-ski and high class nightlife. Rock concerts punctuate the ski holiday season, with this winter being launched by sexy Barbados-born star Rihanna. The Stereophonics concert was on Easter Sunday, next on the bill is reggae star Jimmy Cliff, who will perform at Alp Trida (on the Swiss side of the mountain) on Sunday 20 April, and the grand finale will be on Saturday 3 May when Sir Elton John takes to the stage.
It will be Sir Elton's second appearance in concert in Ischgl. He was the first big star to feature in Ischgl's Top Of The Mountain concerts in 1995. Other big names to have followed his lead since that first appearance have included Lionel Richie, Bob Dylan, Sting, Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, the Sugababes, Pink and The Pussycat Dolls.
The open-air concerts are held at Idalp, the ski base area above the village of Ischgl. Concert-goers just need a liftpass to get to the venue.
