Eight of the best European teams (The United Kingdom, France, Spain, Portugal and Italy have already qualified) will face each other in French leg of the 2008 Beach Soccer European Championships in Tignes for breathtaking, full-blooded matches. Step-overs, overhead kicks, back heels and all the usual "Cantona moves" are allowed.
For five years now, lead by the Cantona brothers, Tignes has hosted the French leg of the Championships. The beach in Tignes, the highest in Europe, will resemble Copacabana for the occasion, complete with Battucada, Brazilian dancers and "futcheball."
Cantona, selector and trainer of the French Beach Soccer team who were World Champions in 2005, will encourage his team to score the most goals in Tignes, ahead of participation in the 2008 Beach Soccer World Cup on home turf in Marseille from 17 to 27 July.
The resort is offering a special "Caliente" weekend package for the occasion which includes two or three day's accommodation and access to the Beach Soccer matches on the beach in Tignes from €49/person in a luxury four-room apartment for six or from €70/person in a two-star hotel (double occupancy, breakfast included).
The summer ski area on the Grand Motte glacier is open every day from 21st June to 31st August 2008, from 7.15am to 1pm. There are 20km of piste between 3,000m and 3,656m altitude is available with 750m of vertical - as big as the biggest lift served vertical in the southern hemisphere. There are 12 ski lifts and a snow park with a new boarder cross course due to open this summer and a mini slalom.
