Temperatures at 2000m reached 20 degrees Celcius and at 3000m were 13 degrees, too warm to maintain quality snow conditions. Thunder storms, strong winds and hail storms are also forecast.
Val d'Isere's small Glacier du Pissaillas ski area has originally planned to stay open to August 15th. The glacier had recently added new snowmaking equipment in order to make snow when conditions were suitable. The other two remaining French summer ski resorts - Les 2 Alpes and Tignes - are still open and aim to remain so to the end of August.
