Granite Peak Celebrates Some Unusual Events In Feb.

Granite Peak overlooks the Wisconsin River valley and Wausau in northern Wisconsin. Granite Peak overlooks the Wisconsin River valley and Wausau in northern Wisconsin.

Granite Peak, Wisconsin's largest ski area, celebrates a couple of unusual holidays during the month of February; especially for this far north.

You are a good distance from New Orleans, but get ready to enjoy some Cajun-style food and throw down some Hurricane drink specials at the Peak's Mardi Gras Festival Saturday, Feb. 21. There will be silly slalom races for all ages, lift ticket and dinner specials, and don't forget the beads. What's a Mardi Gras without beads, even in the Cheesehead State? Brad Emmanuel will be performing blues music in the New Saloon (yes, that's actually the name of their new saloon).

Get ready to celebrate the third annual Pulaski Weekend Festival at the Peak. Feb. 28-March 2. There will be lift ticket and dinner specials Saturday, and The Berwins will be rocking the New Saloon that night. Grab the lederhosen Sunday. There will be lots of Polish food, music and beer specials will be going on the new outdoor patio. Children's arts and crafts projects, sponsored by Wausau's Woodson Art Museum, will be taking place in the Sundance Chalet. Monday the festival continues with more Polish food and drink, and, of course, lots of great skiing and riding all the time.

Check out area lodging specials that may be available for the long three-day weekend. The ski area partners with a lot of great lodging hosts around the city; motels, downtown hotels and lovely B&Bs.
