Heavy snowfall has been reported across the Pyrenees including in Andorra and on the Spanish side of the mountain range that separates France and Spain with Andorra sandwiched between.
Many ski resorts in the Pyrenees have invested heavily in recent years in new lifts and snowmaking creating a modern product, but usually at lower prices than in the Alps to the north for everything from lift tickets to a glass of beer. The local people are also typically friendly and service oriented.
Other advantages for skiers include uncrowded local access airports such as Pau, Tarbes or Toulouse which are usually cheap to reach on low- cost airlines due to over capacity in the winter.
In St Lary 40cm (16 inches) of snow has fallen at resort level with 70cm (28 inches) at the top of the ski area.
