The "Eagle Express" high speed quad chairlift will be operating and one intermediate run, "Tranquilizer" will open on Saturday with more runs in the lower area expected to open the following weekend. "We are very excited to be able to open so early in the season for skiers and riders. The snowmaking and grooming crews have done an outstanding job at getting Tranquilizer ready and the run will be in great shape on opening day ", says Brian Rode, VP of Marketing for the resort. "Tranquilizer" is the most popular intermediate run in the lower portion of the mountain and has a vertical drop of almost 1,000 feet.
Marmot Basin installed a state-of-the-art snowmaking system in the lower area of the mountain in 2006 and also has the highest base elevation in Canada. These two factors have helped Marmot to make enough snow to open at such an early date.
"It has been an unseasonably warm fall and snowmaking efforts have been hampered at most resorts", commented Rode. "Our base elevation is 5,600 feet where temperatures are cooler than in the valley. We have been quite successful at making high quality snow, even during these warmer than normal temperatures. Marmot has also received 55 cm of natural snowfall on the mountain so far this season and, with a bit more natural snowfall, combined with continued snowmaking, more of the mountain will open. "
Lift ticket rates for opening weekend are reduced by 50% to $33.31 plus GST for adults, $26.67 plus GST for youth, students and senior and $11.91 plus GST for children 12 and under.
