The famous French glacier resort will host the first European X Games from March 10th - 12th and the world's best winter action sportsmen and women will be invited to compete in eight disciplines.
Events will include ski and snowboard superpipe contests for both men and women and a snowmobile demonstration event.
Tignes are working with action sports TV channel ESPN and the leading French broadcaster of pay-for-view TV, Canal+ to bring the X Games to Europe.
"We will draw on the combined experience of ESPN, Tignes and the X Games teams to ensure this is the biggest event in Europe in winter 2010," said Jean Louise Dutaret, Events CEO for Canal+. He added that it was great news for winter sports fans in Europe to be able to watch some of the world's best snowsports athletes again just a few weeks after the conclusion of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada.
The Winter X Games were first developed in 1995 as a showcase for the world's best in the then relatively new high thrills snow sports. The main Games have been staged annually in Aspen Colorado for most of the past 15 years, but TV channel ESPN which owns the franchise has also staged demonstration events all around the world - in Dubai, Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, Korea, Mexico and Malaysia.
"Nothing could be more fitting that Tignes hosting the first European Winter X Games," said Sebastian Merignargues, Tignes Resort Manager, "Tignes is always at the forefront of action and freestyle winter sport.
