There's no need for breaks on powder days for skiers and boarders in Mammoth, California this winter, as two "snowcat food trucks" have been introduced to the slopes.
The snowcats, dubbed The Roving Mammoth(s), will travel around the ski resort bringing food and drink options to areas of the mountain that previously had no such options. The cats will feature grab-and-go food items including burritos, tamales, calzones, other snacks and drinks. In addition to being an excellent option for anyone wanting to maximise time on the slopes, they are also a good-value alternative to on-mountain restaurants. Some examples of areas where the Roving Mammoths might be stationed are the bottom of Cloud 9 Express, bottom of Chair 12, bottom of Chair 23, bottom of Roller Coaster Express, top of Eagle Express.
Ski Independence (www.ski-i.com; 0131 243 8097) offers seven nights at the three star Alpenhof in Mammoth from £1,047 per person (based on two adults sharing). Offer includes scheduled flights with British Airways to San Francisco, seven-day SUV rental with Alamo Gold, and accommodation in a standard room.
