Salomon's Jib Academy gives young, local, hot shot freeskiers a chance to earn time on the snow with the Salomon Freeski Team. Local freeskiers vie to be selected for the International Jib Academy finals by competing in events at one of three Canadian resorts in March: Mount St. Louis-Moonstone, Canada Olympic Park, and Mont Tremblant.
The Jib Academy events showcase freeskiers who are 16 years old or under. The events require no entry fee, but you will need a lift ticket for the day, and you must wear a helmet to compete.
Entries are limited to 60 competitors at each one of the venues. You'll need to register in advance online. Each participant must show up to the competition with a Salomon waiver signed by parents or guardians. Both Mont St. Louis Moonstone and Mont Tremblant require additional waivers.
Salomon sent two winners from Canada last year to the Jib Academy International finals in Mammoth, Calif. They skied for four days in May with members of the Salomon Freeski Team: Sammy Carlson, Simon Dumont, Kaya Turski, Mike Douglas, Matt Walker, Mark Abma, and Charles Gagnier. But three Canadian competitors will be sent this year -one from each Canadian event.
The Jib Academy in Canada hits Mount St. Louis Moonstone first March 7. Then, it moves to Canada Olympic Park in Calgary March 21, and jumps to Mont Tremblant March 29.
