Serre Chevalier is hosting a range of exciting events on the slopes this winter season, from the French Ski Championships to the Big Torchlight Downhill.

This is one of the French resorts that organise national alpine skiing events. They are hosting the first stage of the French Ski Championships - The Golden Squirrels - Jan. 30-Feb.1, 2009.

As the French Ski Championships finish, another exciting event begins. The Serre Chevalier Grand Prix is being organised by the Ski Club of Serre Chevalier Sunday Feb. 1. The grand prix is a cross-country race registered in the regional championship but is open to everyone. The race takes place in Monetier-les-Bains (Les Guibertes). All the competitors must have a FFS licence or buy a day insurance ticket for the race (€10). The first run begins at 10 a.m. Registration is open until 6 p.m. Friday Jan. 30.

The Big Torchlight Downhill, one of the most popular annual winter events in Serre Chevalier, will take place on the Luc Alphand Piste at 7 p.m. Feb. 25. The event is open to everyone with a minimum of a three-star level and torches are for sale at the ski area desks and tourist offices for €5.

The second Serre Chevalier Derby is a downhill race that will take place Sunday, March 29. This downhill race is set in the Cucumelle open bowl with around 1100 metres of vertical drop.
