Two-and-a-half hours from the metro area, Hunter Mountain boasts 55 trails, 11 lifts, two terrain parks, a snowtubing park with nine chutes and two tows, a full-service luxury hotel, and full snowmaking capability. Hunter claims to be the first resort in the world to offer 100 percent snowmaking coverage.
Various resorts throughout the northeastern United States have celebrated their 50th Anniversaries in past years: Hunter has the distinction of being owned and operated by the same family - the Slutzkys - and one of Hunter's two founders, Orville Slutzky, is still here to celebrate. Orville's late brother and Hunter Mountain co-founder, Izzy, died in 2006. The brothers were honored in 2007 with the National Ski Areas Association's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Hunter's 50th Anniversary celebration began this month and will continue through the coming year, with promotions, live entertainment, giveaways, fireworks, and lift ticket specials.
Hunter has 55 trails on 240 acres, a vertical drop of 1,600 feet, and 11 lifts including three quads, two triples, five doubles, and a handle tow.
