Ugly day in store for the Midwest, things quiet down and warm up for parts of the West and a much needed break for the East. RC

With all the action over the last week, it looks like folks in the Pac Northwest will get a bit of a break. Outside of some rain and minor mountain snow showers for Washington and Oregon, things look to be dry today with temps on the warm side, especially for California. Look for highs from the mid teens in the mountains to the mid 60's in northern California.

Things stay pretty quiet today outside of some minor activity in the mountain areas of West Virginia, western PA and New York. This much needed break looks to be short lived though, as cooler temps return tomorrow and another system heads into the region by midweek. Highs today mid teens to the mid 40's.

Some of the action that pounded the Pac Northwest teams up with an Alberta Clipper, making for an ugly and dangerous mix in the region today. Areas from the plain states to eastern Ohio could receive up to 9 inches of new powder combined with high winds and the potential for blizzard conditions. Warnings are already in effect for many states and it's best to call ahead before trying to get on the road tomorrow. Highs from the single digits to the mid 30's.
