[R199R, Kimberley Alpine Resort} has long been tagged as a family resort. Now, it plans on celebrating families by launching its First Annual Family Festival Feb. 13-16. The celebration coincides with long weekends holidays when western Canada takes a break for Family Day Long Weekend and the U.S. celebrates Presidents' Weekend.
"At Kimberley, family fun is required," Matt Mosteller, spokesperson for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, told OnTheSnow.com. "It's not just in the brochure, but really happens." Mosteller, who has two children, knows by experience. "You can't beat the view of your kids from the skating rink as you see their heads looking outside of the igloo," he added.
The resort plans to load the weekend with family-oriented events, such as ski races, movies, Family Great Chases, karaoke, snow sculpting contests, skating, and evening children's activities. Adrenaline Dog Tours also takes their 25 purebred Siberian huskies through the woods for family sled mushing.
Kimberley also plans to extend its night skiing during the Family Festival. Lights will illuminate the slopes until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
