Ischgl bursts on to the winter scene with its Top of the Mountain Opening Concert Nov. 26, this year featuring 80s pop band Roxette.

The resort is famous for starting and ending its ski season with a huge open-air concert on the Idalp (2300m); big-name artists have included The Killers, Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Gossip, and Leona Lewis.

Around 20,000 skiers are expected to attend Roxette's opening concert. The Swedish pop band will perform hits such as "Listen to your heart", "Sleeping in my car", "Crash, Boom, Bang" and the mega-hit "Joyride". Roxette is Sweden's second biggest music export after ABBA. Artists Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson founded Roxette in 1986 and their international breakthrough came in 1989 with the global hit "The Look".

The concert begins 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26. Admission is free for all those with a two-day skipass. A one-day skipass including concert admission costs €55. Alternatively, the Top of the Mountain Opening Concert package includes three nights' accommodation (Nov. 24-27) with breakfast in a hotel category of your choice, a three-day VIP ski pass for Ischgl/Samnaun, and admission to the Top of the Mountain Opening Concert, priced from €199 per person.

Ischgl's ski slopes open the day before the concert, Nov. 25, and offer a total of 238 kilometres of pistes and 44 lifts.

Skiers in Ischgl this year will benefit from the new family friendly Sonnenbahn B5 six-seater chairlift, which replaces the Sonnenlift, and is complete with an easy-to-use retraining bar locking system.
