St. Moritz To Host 25th Cartier Polo World Cup

2008 Cartier Polo World Cup. 2008 Cartier Polo World Cup.

The 25th Cartier Polo World Cup On Snow will take place in St. Moritz Jan. 29 to Feb. 1, 2009. The event attracts the world's polo elite and has taken place annually on the resort's frozen lake since 1985.

Some of the highest-rated players worldwide join teams to test their strategies, horses and abilities against each other. Preparations for the jubilee are already going full speed ahead. Four teams will be lining up once again: the Cartier, Maybach, Brioni and Julius Baer teams have all signed up world-class players.

The event all started in 1983 when a handful of keen polo fans from St. Mortiz decided to start playing a brand new type of sport: polo played on the snow. The Cartier Polo World Cup in St Moritz is now in its 25th year.

The glamorous game of polo is well-suited to St Moritz, which is one of the world's glitziest ski resorts in the Alps. The resort is set at 1822 metres altitude and has a total of 350 kilometres of pistes for all levels. Skiers and snowboarders can reach a height of 3303 metres altitude. Never seen a polo match? Here's your chance.
