Bank Operates Snowy Range After Owners Couldn't Sell

Snowy Range Ski Area, located near Laramie, Wyo., is open this winter despite the plans that the current owners had to close down operations. The ski hill was put up for sale after last winter by the owners of 16 years, who were in debt. The owners struggled to operate the area in recent years and sought help from Laramie's First National Bank to assist with the sale. However, no new owners were found in time to run the area this winter.

The bank stepped forward to operate the ski hill for the season as the owners continue to look for a buyer. The community rallied in support of the ski hill, which has operated since 1959. Volunteers pitched in with a clean-up day to help prep the lodge and area for its Dec. 20 opening.

Once the bank decided to operate the ski hill, season pass sales climbed higher than previous years. Opening day reportedly saw a good turnout with one lift and eight runs.

The bank plans to continue to operate the resort until a new buyer is found. Snowy Range will be open Thursdays through Mondays through March with its four lifts and magic carpet running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Adult lift tickets cost $39. Children's lift tickets are $24. Call 307-745-5750 for further information.

Maybe we should all form a cooperative and have the community buy the area. This is a nice place and it is being sold for a bargin price. If the right buyer is found this could become a destination resort.
