This area of Wisconsin is called the Driftless Region, because it was never touched by the succession of glaciers that flowed down into the Heartland over the last couple of million years. The last great glacier was just here about 11,000 years ago. Having escaped the leveling effect of the continental glaciers, it left a landscape with tall hills and deep valleys that is perfect for skiing and riding. Tyrol Basin, which has been serving skiers for over 50 years, utilizes the best of this terrain.
