Among the myriad objectives of the Mount Ashland Association, a nonprofit, charitable organization designed to provide educational and recreation opportunities to the general public of Oregon's Jackson County, is the desire to give every child in the community an opportunity to learn to ski or snowboard regardless of their social or economic needs.

The association is hoping to achieve that goal through its Give A Kid A Lift program This program not only introduces kids to skiing and snowboarding - activities that MAA believes help build confidence, self-esteem, citizenship and a respect for nature - but also helps children learn about the alpine environment through the Winter Science Program and Youth Summer Service Program.

There are also Special Olympics events, field trips for the Candle Lighters Childhood Cancer Foundation, and the Kids Konnected group.

Of course, these types of programs need funding to remain viable - the Mount Ashland Association is hoping to raise $40,000 this season to keep these campaigns solvent.

One way to help is by entering the Give A Kid A Lift raffle. you get a chance to win a night's accommodations at Callahans Siskyou Lodge and four lift tickets to Mt. Ashland resort for $5 (which buys you three raffle tickets) or $10 (seven tickets). Raffle tickets are also available at Callahans Lodge, at the Mt. Ashland business office and at the Mt. Ashland main lodge. Drawings will be held Feb. 5 and March 5.
