Revelstoke Mountain Resort may be only two years old, but its heli-ski operation has been in business for 30 years as Selkirk Tangiers Helicopter Skiing. It's the third largest heli-skiing company in the world with 500,000 acres of terrain, an area that surpasses the size of more lift-served resorts.
"There's so much terrain that not every run has been skied," marketing director Ashley Tait told Onthesnow.com. "The great thing is with that much terrain that the guides can adapt to the group interest and ski level." Plus, the terrain sees only 40 people on a busy day.
Clear flying days allow the helicopters to access big high wide alpine bowls in the Selkirk and Monashee Ranges in the Columbia Mountains. "That's traditionally where you find the better February and March skiing," added Tait. Cloudy and snowy days still permit flying to lower elevations for gladed terrain through old growth cedars that are 400 years old.
Revelstoke runs its single-day introduction to heli-skiing on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The Bell 205 helicopter carries 10 skiers plus two guides up for three runs. Breakfast, lunch, an après ski snack, and fat board rentals are included in the $714.29 CDN rate.
The resort also offers three- to seven-day all-inclusive packages that include accommodations, three meals per day, and high performance fat board rentals. Call 800-663-7080 for more information or reservations. You can also find more details on the multi-day packages online.
