Engelberg unveiled its brand new Brunni Cable Car Dec. 20. The new cable car can transport up to 65 guests at a time and travel at a speed of 36 kilometres per hour. It will travel up from the Klostermatte Station at the bottom to the Ristis Station at the top in just five minutes.
The opening of the new cable car coincided with the FIS World Cup Ski Jumping event in Engelberg, which took place Dec. 20-21. Other events lined up for the resort include the second ‘Swiss Snow Walking Event' Feb. 1, 2009.
The traditional alpine village of Engelberg offers skiers and boarders access to one of the highest mountains in Switzerland - Titlis. The village of Engleberg is traffic free, making it easier for visitors to enjoy the many cafes and shops. Engleberg has a relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by mountain scenery and snow-capped peaks.
The ski area of Engelberg features 82 kilometres of runs, reaching heights of 3000 metres altitude, linked by 24 lifts. It also boasts one of the biggest vertical descents in the world at 2000 metres. There's also an120-meter ski hill and a glacier with year-round skiing.
Engelberg is enjoying excellent early snowfall with a reported 165cm of snow on the upper slopes and 35 on the slower slopes.
