Italian Resorts Open Early After Heavy Snowfall

Evening in Madonna di Campiglio Evening in Madonna di Campiglio

The Italian ski resorts have benefited from a heavy dump of snow just in time for the start of the new winter season.

Cervinia, at 2000 metres, is one of the highest resorts in the Alps and offers reliable snow conditions. The resort has actually been open since early November this year due to early snow. All the lifts in the ski area of Breuil-Cervinia were opened from Nov. 29 and there was a reported 65cm of snow on the lower slopes (2050 metres) and 230cm of snow on the upper slopes (3480 metres).

Madonna di Campiglio (1550 metres) opened Nov. 28, a week ahead of schedule due to heavy snowfall. The resort benefited from a further 47cm of snow over the opening weekend. A total of 131cm of snow has fallen on the resort since the beginning of the winter season and, by the start of December, there was 30cm of snow on the lower slopes and 70cm on the upper slopes.

The Madonna di Campiglio Tourist Board is offering an airport transfer service from Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, Venice, Bergamo, Verona, Brescia, and Bolzano Airports. There are also transfers from Trento and Bolzano railway stations. More information and prices are available.

The Italian ski resort of Madonna di Campiglio is part of the Skirama Adamello-Brenta Area and has direct access to 150 kilometres of downhill skiing, with 51 individual pistes, served by 24 ski lifts. In addition to the skiing in Madonna di Campiglio itself, the resort is connected to the ski resort of Passo Tonale and the ski areas of Folgarida and Marilleva.
