The season may just be getting underway, but Indianhead Resort, located in the western end of Michigan's Big Snow Country, is already offering special lodging rates over the holidays.  Other fun and enticing special outings are coming up early season.

You can save 20-percent on hotel rooms at the resort from Dec. 26, 2008, through Jan. 3, 2009. According to Indianhead's Dave Nyquist, that's a savings of over $80 on a two-night stay. The offer is for new reservations only, and a minimum two night stay is required. Call (800) 346-3426 for details and to book a reservation.

Something new the resort is offering over the holidays is a guided moonlight snowshoeing tour, which starts at 7 p.m.  It lasts about an hour and is followed by a bonfire and hot chocolate in the courtyard.  The cost is $7 with snowshoe rental and $5 if you have your own snowshoes.  The program will continue on weekends throughout the season.  Snowshoeing on a bright, moonlit night is special.  It always reminds me of trekking across the frozen planet of Hoth from The Empire Strikes Back.  It had the same kind of low, luminous light.

Also coming up is the popular Brewski Microbrew Festival on Saturday, Jan. 10.  You can enjoy some of the UP's finest microbrew beers in the lounge, of course after skiing and riding.  Spend the night and enjoy it even more.  Special lodging rates will be available for the night.
