It's probably one of the best Heartland deals I've seen for those that aspire to learn how to ski or snowboard.  How does free sound?  It doesn't get much better than that, and it's in plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the winter season that, in Duluth, normally lasts through March.

Spirit Mountain is providing free ski and snowboard lessons for beginners - 13 years and up - Sunday, Jan, 4 at 10 a.m. or 3 p.m.  The lesson, which normally runs $45, also includes free equipment rental.  Reservations need to be made at least 48 hours in advance of the lesson day.  Call (800) 642-6377 to reserve your spot, and don't delay.  Its first come, first serve, and spots will fill quickly.  If you've been thinking about giving snowsports a try, it's time.  If, by an unlikely chance, you don't like sliding on snow, you haven't lost a thing.

Spirit, with its big 700-foot vertical drop, long runs and panoramic views of Duluth and Lake Superior,  is one of the most scenic ski areas around the Great Lakes.  The views at night, overlooking the twinkling lights of the city and the harbor, are arguably some of the best that you will find in the Lower 48.  The city-owned area offers a big plus for an area where winter is one of their longest seasons.

Many skiers and riders across the country would love to have Spirit in their backyard.  But, it's more than just a local area for the 80,000 plus that live around the Queen City of the North.  With great skiing and riding and the wonderful ethnic charm found around Duluth, it makes a great weekend get-a-way for Twin City snowsports enthusiasts and those in Wisconsin. Check out  lodging packages within the city and nearby motels.  Duluth's waterfront bustles at night.
