Saas Fee opened for the winter season Nov.11 with a number of improvements both on and off the slopes.
New additions to the slopes feature an extension of the snow making facilities up to the Spielboden cable car mountain station. There is also a new fun park for freestylers at Kreuzboden complete with rails and kickers.
The resort is introducing complimentary village transport starting this winter. It applies to all village bus routes as well as the old- fashioned electric train known as ‘Allalino.'
The world's largest ice pavilion is hosting a new exhibition this winter. Set at 2500 metres altitude, the 5500-cubic-metre ice pavilion on the Mittelallalin above Saas-Fee, is not only the largest ice pavilion in the world, but will also draw guests to its new exhibition, organised by the Saas Fee Cableways Corporation. The picture gallery illustrates Saas-Fee/Saastal between 1800 and 2009.
Saas Fee sits at 1800 metres altitude. Often termed the ‘Pearl of the Alps' it has managed to retain much of its traditional charm. The resort offers 100 kilometres of prepared pistes connected 22 lifts, 20 kilometres of winter walking trails, and eight kilometres of cross-country skiing. Non-skiers will enjoy the 11-kilometre-long toboggan run from Kreuzboden to Saad-Grund.
