Great levels of early snow have been widely reported across the Pyrenees, with the French resorts of St Lary/Pla d'Adet and Les Angles recording particularly good snow fall for this time of year.  Many resorts in the region have opened early with some claiming the snow conditions are the best for 40 years in the area.

Access to the French Pyrenees is easier than ever. Some tourist boards are running free shuttles timed to meet low cost arrivals from the UK at regional airports, saving clients hundreds of pounds.

Facilities in the resorts of the French Pyrenees have been improved in recent years in order to compete with the Alps. Les Angles has invested in a network of 400 snow cannons to maximise snow cover throughout the season, as one example. 

St Lary/Pla d'Adet is located 20km from the Spanish border and with 100km of slopes is the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees. This winter sees the beginning of free shuttle buses to the resort from the regional airports of Tarbes and Pau. 

Accommodation in the French Pyrenees is often significantly cheaper than equivalent Alpine resorts, without compromising on quality or location.

The Lagrange Prestige residence Les Chalets de l'Adet, which opened last season in St Lary/Pla d'Adet, is located at the foot of the slopes with views across the valley, for example. It boasts large comfortable apartments, an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, and steam room. Prices start from £356 for one week in January in a two-bedroom apartment sleeping up to six people, accommodation only.
