St. Moritz Upgrades Cable Car, Builds Underground Garage

Engadin St. Moritz was among the first ski areas in Europe to open for the winter season Oct.18. The Diavolezza cable car began transporting skiers and boarders up to the slopes earlier than any other destination in Graubünden.

St. Moritz celebrated the new winter season Nov. 29 with the first St. Moritz City Race, a parallel slalom through the middle of the village with celebrities, music, and a fashion show.

A variety of events have been organised throughout the season, including the Cartier Polo World Cup, the Bobsleigh World Cup, the White Star winter vintage car rally, classical music at the Sinfonia Engiadina and jazz at the Out of the Blue's Festival.

Significant improvements also are underway in St. Moritz, both on and off the slopes. The Corvatsch cable car is being upgraded; on the second stage, larger cabins are being introduced, increasing the number of passengers that can be carried from 80 to 100.

A new underground garage is being built at the Corvatsch base station, offering 400 parking places over three floors; guests have direct access via a lift and footbridge to the entrance hall and ticket counters. A new two-seater chairlift will connect the Rabgiusa base station with the Curtinella top station.
