Steamboat is great place to bring your youngsters.

The resort has several kids-only lifts - one of which accesses Rough Rider Basin, which has teepees, a fort, and a terrain part for pint-size rippers - and two special teaching areas for children. Kids 5 through 12 can hang out at the Kids' Vacation Center for Kids Night Out, which offers supervision, pizzas and snacks, games, movies, and a variety of activities. It even has its own kids-only Web site: snowmonsters.com.

Every winter Steamboat holds its Family Snow Festival, a weekend extravaganza that this season will be held from Jan. 17-18.

The festivities begin on Saturday with the opening of the all-day Adventure Zone in the Steamboat Music Tent, where kids can mess around with a gyro, a mini bounce and a mechanical bull; continue with an afternoon kids' jib jam and conclude with a Western barbeque at the top of the gondola in the evening.

Day 2 has the Adventure Zone back in business, the Globee the International Bee's Around the Word Adventure in Gondola Square, and another Western barbeque. The Family Snow Festival then comes to a rousing conclusion on Sunday evening with concert featuring Disney star Mitchell Musso in the Steamboat Music Tent.

Or you can simply just hang with the kids on the hill all day, ripping up some of Steamboat's famous Champagne powder.
