Skiers heading to Les Gets this winter will find plenty of entertainment on and off the slopes. The resort has unveiled its calendar of events for the 2008-09 season and promises something for everyone.
Les Gets offers bundles of Christmas cheer. Children and adults will be welcomed into Father Christmas' Cabin Dec. 13 to 26. Explore the enchanted forest and watch the elves make the final preparations for the Grand Chimney Tour Dec. 24. Children will enjoy drawing competitions, Christmas concerts, snow sculptures, magic shows, the Christmas parade, and fireworks display.
The 16th anniversary of the Snow Carnival takes place Feb. 24. On the agenda is a wide range of entertainment and shows, with parades, fireworks, and street performances. Easter brings the Great Egg Hunt! Sunday April 12, when the Indians and Trappers from Grand Cry territory invite children to participate in an egg hunt on skis.
The Portes du Soleil resorts will host an unusual event Jan, 11-14, uniting the best mushers in the world. Le Grande Odyssee is a long-distance dog-sledge race inspired by the legendary Yukon Quest. Several races will take place from the departure point in the heart of the village. The Grande Odyssee will be one of the biggest events of the season and involves the whole family with animations, spectacles, and exhibitions.
You can watch the torchlight descent every Monday throughout the season over a glass of warm mulled wine. It's performed by French ski school instructors.
