Loon Spends $3 Million On Improvements

Loon Mountain has invested more than $3 million in trails, snowmaking guns, a carpet lift, 10 new rails for terrain parks, and a new adaptive skiing center.

The new trails on South Peak add 14 acres of terrain and include the area's first double black diamond, Rip Saw, running between Boom Run and Cruiser Escape Route.

Loon is adding 20 new Boyne fan guns to the signature Loon Mountain Park and trails on Loon Peak, and 50 new HKD tower guns on South Peak.

"The new equipment is six times more efficient than conventional snowmaking equipment." said Ops Director Ralph Lewis. "The Boyne Fan Guns and the HKD Towers are nice balances of technologies that allow us to open more of our mountain sooner, and provide an exceptional surface throughout the winter, even when the weather is marginal." The additional snow guns join more than 150 energy-efficient snow guns already in place.

Loon also is adding two new groomers.

A new carpet lift replaces the lower of two handle tows on Sarsaparilla.

Ten new rails are being added to 65 existing rails, jibs, and jumps in Loon's six terrain parks.

Loon's White Mountain Adaptive Snowsports School has a new 4,800-square-foot-building. The school teaches more than 500 lessons a year for people with disabilities.

The resort is adding new rental gear, featuring a new boot and binding system from Head designed to streamline the rental process. Also new is an online rental reservation system.

Lift cpacity still too small for the crowds. The 4 person gondola needs to be upgraded to an 8-10 person to handle the numbers on the weekends. I own at the mountain Club but we ski elswhere. Thelines are just too long. Reminds me of the army.
