Mount Sunapee Resort will be offering free one-day learn-to-ski/snowboard packages from opening day at the South Peak Learning Area through Wednesday, Dec. 24.

The package will be available to individuals age 8 or older.  Each package includes a two-hour lesson, rental equipment for the day, and an all-day lift ticket to the South Peak Learning Area.

Mount Sunapee introduced this program in 2007 and more than 1,000 people participated. Many participants came back to Mount Sunapee for more lessons and then continued to ski or snowboard through the winter.

"Skiing and snowboarding is something that individuals, friends, and family can enjoy for their entire lives," says Maura Gorman, director of the Learning Center at Mount Sunapee.  "Early season is a great time for beginners, as they don't need the entire mountain to be open to learn the basics.  Then they have all winter to enjoy skiing and snowboarding."

The South Peak Learning Area is a self-contained area designed specifically for teaching adults and children how to ski and snowboard.  South Peak has 13 trails and slopes and five lifts including a slow-moving quad chairlift and two easy-to-ride carpet lifts.  Beginners are surrounded by other beginners.

The free one-day learn-to-ski/snowboard packages begin opening day at the South Peak Learning Area, not opening day at the resort.  Call (603) 763-3500 for more information on the free learn-to-ski/snowboard packages, availability and the opening date of the South Peak Learning Area.
