Wyoming's Jackson Hole Mountain Resort plans to crank up its lifts this weekend, but its new tram will not be among the lifts open for skiing and snowboarding. The new tram's launch later in December will be full of hooplah and deals.

The resort lifts will begin turning for the season Saturday, Nov. 29. Operations are limited around the resort in the early season until snows permit a full opening of the mountain.

Meanwhile, resort officials are planning the tram launch weekend full of celebratory events to commemorate the new tram. The party begins on Dec. 19 with an outdoor show of lights, film, and action, which features the unveiling of the new tram followed by fireworks. Then, you can join one of the after parties around Teton Village or line up to be one of the first riders on the tram the next day.

The first tram runs on Dec. 20 following an opening ceremony. The first cars are reserved for VIPs and guests. Officials anticipate opening to the public around noon.

Special tram launch lodging packages are available for the weekend in a variety of area lodges and hotels. You can stay in Teton Village or in Jackson Hole.

The Jackson Hole Resort Lodging Tramformation Package includes three nights lodging in Teton Village in a two-bedroom/two-bathroom condominium, based on quad occupancy. It also includes two days of lift tickets. Prices start at $310 per person, and the package in available Dec. 19 - 22. Call (800) 443-8613 for reservations.
