Resorts in this article: Sundown Mountain

Ever wanted to learn to ski or ride?  Now may be the time, especially if you live in Iowa.  Sundown Mountain, the Hawkeye State's largest ski area, is offering free lessons and ski rentals to first-timers December 1-21, but reservations are required and openings are limited.  Don't be left out. Call (800) 922-9489 and reserve your spot.  It's one of the best deals in the Heartland.

Sundown has gotten rid of all their "granny" skis, according to marketing person Michelle Ellison. "These aren't your Granny's skis," she says. "We've replaced all rental equipment with new Élan's that have state-of-the-art bindings for lightening fast set-up time, and also got 150 new snowboards with Flow bindings.  The fast set-up time will get our customers out on the snow more quickly, and the performance curve should make learning more comfortable and relaxed."

What more could you ask for than free lessons and new rental equipment. The time is right to get out and discover what snow sports are all about.  You never will think of winter in the same way again.

Riders can stop by and check out the terrain park's new "vehicle" feature.  The make and model are not being released.  "Is it a car, or is it a bus?" asks GM Mark Dietz.  "Who says it is a vehicle.  Come on out and find out for yourself."  Sounds like there might be a contest coming to figure out what's buried in the terrain park.  Other shred-inspired features include jumps, rails, and lots of funboxes.  It's one of the top riding snowboard areas in the lower Heartland.
