Granite Peak, Wisconsin's largest ski hill with a 700-foot vertical drop will open for the season Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, weather permitting.  What a great way to wear off a few calories.  The Peak will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. over the holiday weekend, but only from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Turkey Day (Thursday).

It's also the grand opening of the Peak's new saloon called - what else? - the New Saloon.  There will be drink specials, appetizers, special giveaways of some nice swag, and live entertainment daily from 2-10 p.m.

A Thanksjibbing Rail Jam, sponsored by Dwellers, will take place Saturday, Nov. 29.  Registration starts at 9 a.m. in the lower level of the Historic Chalet and the throwdown starts at 11:30 a.m.  There's a $10 entry fee and prizes will be presented to the top three in the under 15 category, the 16 and over category, and the Open Class.

The best news is that you can ski three days for the price of two over the Thanksgiving weekend, and there's always some lodging deals in the Wausau area. The Peak doesn't have any lodging, but they work hand-in-hand with the Wausau CVB and many area hotels and motels package with the ski area.
