Skiers Enjoy Christmas in Heber Valley

Heber isn't very far away and the prices are good for holiday visitors. Heber isn't very far away and the prices are good for holiday visitors.

Just 20 minutes outside of Park City sits a charming little city called Heber that's just itching to catch some holiday overflow. Not only are rooms cheaper there than in Park City during Christmas, but area businesses and city government have teamed up to promote "Christmas in Heber Valley" to call out some added attention.

Their goal is to increase room nights, the number of restaurant patrons, and traffic to local businesses. So far, the funds raised for the December promotion total $9,000.  They estimate they'll need $11,500 to cover all advertising and marketing dollars.

Jason Giles, Chamber Bureau executive director, said, "This Christmas promotion will unite all of the quality holiday offerings in Heber Valley. By bringing these activities and events into one promotion, we will be able to grow exposure, enlarge our audience and increase lodging business for our members. The message will be powerful, appealing and will be done efficiently."

Roxanne Wortham of Zermatt Resort said, "This promotion is all about making the Heber Valley a stronger destination this winter." The brochure will have an events calendar, a map and list of all retail businesses, outfitters, lodging properties and restaurants, and look for every business to have some kind of store front Christmas light display.

Each business will offer a Christmas Treat for visiting their store: a special cookie, candy or ornament, or one of the Heber Valley's specialties - such as Mrs. Call's Caramels, Homestead Fudge or a signature cookie from Day's Market, Breadstix Bakery, Midway Country Corner, Zermatt's Backerei & Eis, or other local bakeries.

If they pull this off, the tiny English/Swiss area will truly look and feel like Santa's Village.
