Resorts in this article: Brighton Resort, Solitude Mountain Resort, Snowbird, Alta Ski Area
It may seem a bit confusing, but once you work out the logistics of the Ski Salt Lake Super Pass you'll be happily off skiing one of four awesome resorts without a care in the world.
Visitors can package their lift tickets (up to six days' worth, valid over a 7-day period) through just about any lodging property in the Salt Lake area. With fuel prices the way they are, and the fact that Salt Lake Valley properties are typically less pricey than resort hotels/condos, the Super Pass is the best option for budget travel.
No need for a rental car if you can get up early enough - each Super Pass includes complimentary transportation on all UTA buses, including their special Ski Busses, and on TRAX, Utah's little commuter train.
Here's how the transit works if you were staying downtown. Take the light rail (UTA TRAX) from downtown and transfer to a UTA ski bus at 7200 south (Midvale) to take you to any of the Cottonwood Canyon resorts (Solitude, Brighton, Alta, Snowbird). The buses start at 6:50 a.m., stopping around the city and at 10 different hotels. Plan for a little over an hour total travel time.
The only drawback: TRAX doesn't run from downtown until after 10 a.m. on Sunday, If you want to get to the resorts early, find friends with cars or call a cab (about $25 one way; still cheaper than renting a car) to take you to the ski bus stop at 7200 south.
Oh, and to sweeten the deal, Ski Salt Lake is offering a 'Book by Dec. 1' (minimum 3-night/3-day stay) and get your last day of skiing free' promotion. In other words, buy a 3-day lift ticket, and get a fourth day free. You don't have to visit by Dec. 1, just book your vacation by then. Visit the Vacations Made Easy Web site for more details.
