Drought Concerns Are Explained

As the drought in the southeast continues, some resorts are thinking toward the future. The reservoir pools are full now at Massanutten Resort, but there hasn't been anything to replenish them. "Without rain, it's going to make snowmaking tough," said Steve Showalter, general manager. "We're hoping for a tropical pattern (tropical storms bringing rain)," he said. But state officials aren't worried. Terry Wagner, chairman of the Virginia drought management task force said, "It's unlikely you'll get a drought emergency," on the state level. However, locally, as reservoirs are depleted, actions could be taken.
