Whitefish Mountain Resort plans to let its superpipe go the way of the dinosaur. The pipe saw three seasons of use since its construction. Two of its three years' openings occurred as late as mid-February and March. Resort officials cite a lack of demand stacked up against high time, fuel, and water costs as the reason for axing it.
The resort, however, plans to expand its Fishbowl Terrain Park to include a quarter pipe and two permanent skier- and boarder-cross courses.
"It's sad to lose something we've all worked so hard on the last few years," said Josh Knight, who oversees the terrain park. "But it really is the right decision, and it will allow us to do an even better job of making the Fishbowl a world-class terrain park experience."
