The Verbier Ride, one of the world's leading freeskiing competitions, will take place on 13 and 14 December.

The slope-style event, held annually in the Swiss resort of Verbier, is now a recognised X-Games qualifier event and attracts some of Europe's top freeskiing athletes. Taking place in one of Switzerland's premier terrain parks within the La Chaux freestyle area, the event offers athletes more than 500 hours of television airtime over the long weekend.

Warren Smith, event director, says "Freestyle skiing is rapidly becoming the major influence on winter sports and the Verbier Ride is deeply etched in the European vanguard of the movement. The Freeski message is all about self-expression on snow and the community of participation on and off the mountain."

The Verbier Ride is also the qualifier for the Orage European Freeski Open in Laax. This event brings together professional and amateur skiers each March to Grap Sogn Gion Mountain where disciplines include halfpipe and slope-style for both men and women.

Visit the Verbier Ride Web site and Orage Freestyle Open Web site for more information.
