Shanty Creek Completes Major Renovation

Shanty Creek, northeast of Traverse City in Antrim County's beautiful hill and dale country, completed a $10 million renovation of its showcase Lakeview Hotel & Conference Center last summer. It replaced the tired, old Summit Village Hotel. If you thought the views from the old hotel were pretty nice, wait until you see the vista from the new structure.

Massive new glass walls bring the view of Lake Bellaire and the Summit slopes right into the new lobby and restaurant. Tall hardwood ceilings will help to highlight the panoramic view. Rich wood tones, warm reds and chocolates and green fabrics will provide an inviting sophisticated feeling on cold winter nights. All guestrooms were renovated.

The Summit's 12 slopes, closed last season during renovation, will reopen with several terrain upgrades. Greenway, the Summit's most popular run, has been expanded and widened, and all new snowmaking equipment was added to cover all slopes and trails.

The Creek's Schuss area will have a longer, wider halfpipe this season on Mellow Yellow, and the tubing park, relocated from the Summit slopes, has been moved to the backside of Schuss Mountain near Cedar Village. It will increase the length of the tubing run and more lanes will be added for this coming season.
