Schweitzer Mountain Resort aims for a history-making early season opening. Pending permit approval, the Idaho resort plans to install cutting edge snowmaking equipment in order to open for Thanksgiving travelers. Eight to ten fully automated machines will cover Midway Run, from the top of the Basin Express Quad down to the village, with at least 18 inches of white stuff in a 300-foot wide swath.

The equipment is said to be the most energy efficient and low impact snowmaking system on the market.
