Not quite what I was expecting...

With a huge snow dump only days behind my trip to Tahoe on Saturday, I thought to myself, this is going to be awesome, can't wait to get out there! Actually, I could have waited to get out there. I could have waited a long time, because I don't think Tahoe is going to be 'great' for quite awhile this year. A funny feeling started in my stomach when I stuck my hand out the car window on I-80 while pulling into Truckee. Whaaaaaat?? I'm pretty sure it was colder in Sacramento when we picked up my friend Davis. Scratch that. The origin of the funny feeling was at Donner Pass when we started actually seeing snow on the ground. Ironically enough, we got stuck behind a sanding truck on 80, sanding against what, I'm not sure. Ice? Uh, no. Snow? I'm pretty sure the 4" of brown stuff on the side wasn't going to interfere with my driving capabilities. The funny feeling intensified as we turned right from 267 onto Northstar Drive. Note my post from last Friday. I mentioned I hoped we wouldn't pull in behind a tour bus. Guess what? We literally pulled in behind a tour bus. Color me not surprised. Northstar has changed a lot in the past few years. I grew up skiing Northstar since my parents have a house there. I love the resort for the memories alone. I also love the giant hot tub and fitness area. I do not love the new village. I do not love the prices. I do love Village Run. Northstar is in the middle of transition and that's a little tough. I think they're losing their Bay Area faithful, as more and more people I know are going to Homewood, Boreal and Sierra. I'm not opposed to a 5-star resort, I am opposed to the tourists! I'm sorry, if you can't figure out how a lift line works, you shouldn't be here. VERTICAL PLUS TOTALLY WORTH THE EXTRA $$. Say you and your friend get in line and you have Vertical Plus and they don't. You will have gone up, come down, and be in line again before your friend gets on the lift in the first place. After two hours, we were done. I can only surf for so long. Went to lunch at Quiznos near Incline Village, sat outside, didn't wear jacket. Then went sledding on a shady hill behind a friends house overlooking the lake. We kicked enough snow onto the path so that we wouldn't run into bushes. Check out the amount of snow on the ground behind me in the picture. I'm not going back until it's 30 degrees and they've had 3 feet from where they are now.
