Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort looks to carry the momentum from a record-breaking 2010/11 into 2012, and the resort is looking at a variety of strategies to keep the excitement high. Headliners for this year include: the new Burton Riglet Park, Huckleberry Cat Tours and 3-Pak lift tickets.

Sierra has partnered with Burton Snowboards to introduce the Burton Riglet Park. This mini snowboard park is designed to introduce kids as young as 3 to to snowboarding. Sierra will utilize Burton's "Riglet Reel" technology in conjunction with the Learn-to-Ride program. The Riglet Reel is an attachment secured to the nose of youth's snowboard that allows instructors to tow kids onto features and around obstacles. This introduces youngsters to the sensation of sliding on snow and fast-forwards the process of learning how to snowboard.

Sierra's new backcountry snowcat tours take expert skiers and riders to the edge of Huckleberry Canyon eradicating the one-and-a-half mile hike to the backcountry access gates. Huckleberry Canyon features cliff drops, cornices, rock chutes, open bowls, gladed runs and powder pillows for those ready for an authentically extreme experience. The tours will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on select days throughout the season, weather and conditions permitting. Each tour includes a Professional Ski Instructor of America (PSIA) certified Ski and Snowboard instructor, who will guide and educate skiers and riders on backcountry safety. Riders are taught how to properly use avalanche equipment (shovel, probe, avalanche beacon, and backpack), which is provided. Tours cost $79 and include lunch. The snowcat can accommodate up to seven people or can be rented out for private tours by groups of five or more. A valid season pass or lift ticket is also required.

And on the deals side, Sierra is offering a 3-Pak lift ticket option, that allows you to ski or ride for $51 per day when you purchase the 3-Pak before December 16, 2011. The 3-Pak lift ticket price rises to $54 per day if purchased after that date. Three-Pak tickets are valid any day of the 2011-12 season with no blackout dates. The tickets do not need to be used consecutively.
