Big Snow Country - Indianhead, Big Powderhorn, and Blackjack - has been in a cooperative mode for the last few years, but now will truly operate as one Upper Peninsula mega-resort. Indianhead is in the process of acquiring the other two and will operate all three as one resort; literally located within minutes of each other. A public transportation system will link the three with continuous daily service.

The big winner in all of this is the consumer. Big Snow Country now offers the most terrain in Michigan's UP, with 82 runs and trails spread out over 1,000 acres between all three resorts for just one lift ticket. Couple that with the over 200 inches of lake effect snow they normally receive each winter, and it adds up to some great skiing and riding.

Access between the three resorts is easy. Blackjack and Indianhead sit right next to each other. It's about a five minute drive between the two, and it wouldn't surprise me that in the future that they will tie the two together with a surface tow. Powderhorn is about a five mile drive, which you can navigate in about 15 minutes passing through the little town of Bessemer. Of course, you can still stay at one resort and ski or ride just that resort if you choose not to take advantage of visiting all three ski areas

Discounted Hill Hopper lift tickets - good at all three Big Snow Country resorts - are currently available for a limited time on Big Snow's rates page. You can buy lift tickets good from one to four days, which can be used anytime this coming season.
