Whistler Blackcomb's $53 million Peak 2 Peak gondola has been under construction all summer to link the upper skill runs of Whistler with Blackcomb. The lift breaks the world record for longest free span: It stretches a distance of 3.024 kilometres (1.88 miles) between the two towers farthest apart.

The gondola is supported by only four towers and will travel a total of 4.4 kilometres (2.73 miles) in just 11 minutes. It reaches its high point of a world record 415 metres (1,361 feet) above Fitzsimmons Creek.

Skiers will no longer need to descend to the village areas to travel between the mountains with the new lift. The resort projects a December 2008 opening for Peak 2 Peak.
