Taos snow guns started blowing snow 24 hours a day, with daytime temperatures dropping last week. Snowmaking crews plan to make snow on 100 percent of the beginner and intermediate slopes in upcoming weeks. A recent storm dropped 5.5 inches of snow for a good starting base. "The key ingredients in snowmaking are air, water, and air temperatures below 28 degrees," says Mountain Manager Bill Etchemendy. "We have had some good natural snowfall so far this year, which makes the snowmakers' job easier because it cools the air temperature and the ground which keeps the machine-made snow from melting." Snowmaking is in preparation for the resort's Thanksgiving opening.
