Chamonix has achieved the environmental ISO 14001 certification after eight months of concerted effort. This award is an acknowledgement that the resort conforms to environmental laws and regulations and is actively working to reduce its effect on the environment.

All the partners of the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Tourist Office, under a system of environmental management, undertook to respect the legal requirements of environmental matters. Together, they are working to achieve a lower environmental impact and motivate visitors to Chamonix to do the same.

Bernard Prud'Homme, Director of the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Tourist Office, said "By introducing a System of Environmental Management, the Tourist Office of Chamonix Mont-Blanc aims to be a real force for implementing the development of sustainable tourism and for encouraging all the main players to follow this path."

The Compagnie du Mont Blanc ski lift company is currently undergoing ISO 14001 certification which it hopes to obtain before the 2008/9 ski season starts.

This common approach between the tourist office and lift company will help make skiers and snowboarders more aware of Chamonix's green credentials.
