Shawnee Adds Fan Guns, Launches Recycling

Shawnee on Delaware continues to go green. Shawnee on Delaware continues to go green.

Shawnee on Delaware in Pennsylvania continues its multimillion dollar investment in snowmaking with the addition of 10 new tower-mounted fan guns on Little Chief Beginners Area and in its Learning Center. The ongoing project to install more efficient snowmaking technology means Shawnee will burn 67,000 fewer gallons of diesel fuel this winter.

The resort also has begun a program to recycle all glass, paper, aluminum and cardboard. Shawnee expects the recycling will remove 4 to 7 tons of material from its waste stream each year.

The resort has asked Saint Francis University Renewable Energy Center to look into the feasibility of wind turbines on the summit of Shawnee Mountain, to produce renewable electric energy from wind power.

Shawnee has added  500 pairs of new Elan shaped skis, 150 new Rossignol snowboards, and 200 pairs of new Dalbello boots to its rental gear inventory.

The resort also has plans to improve its terrain park with new snow features, and better rail set-ups and jump lines in its novice Incubator park and its advanced Bushkill Park.

Shawnee has 23 slopes and trails, two terrain parks and a snow tubing park, served by a quad chairlift, a triple, four doubles, and four magic carpets, and covered by 100 percent snowmaking. Vertical drop is 700 feet, and the area's longest trail is 5,100 feet long.
