"It's ripping, just great," shrieked Kay Ingram of Sausalito, in the mountains for a few days and hitting it just right. "After the winds died down it was just lying there for us. Great way to start the year."
Ski areas in California and Nevada scrambled to get back online after winds prompted brief closures, but the forecast for the weekend seems bright and people everywhere in the mountains are talking snow.
"This will be great for business,'' said Tommy Holmes, who works at Donner Pass Beacon gasoline station in Norden. "Everyone's been struggling up here. We just haven't had the snow or the business.''
