The clubfields of Mt Lyford, Hamner Springs, Roundhill, Ohau and Porters are all now open. Porters celebrated the launch of their new day lodge cafe with the New Zealand Prime Minister officiating at the opening this week. Craigieburn clubfield is scheduled to open this Saturday, July 14 with Mt Olympus and Temple Basin the following Saturday. The clubfields of New Zealand are private member club fields open to the public and are a unique way to experience kiwi skiing and boarding. Half the price of commercial ski fields, you'll rarely find a lift queue but you will find friendly folk and make friends for life. Stay at the on mountain lodges and pitch in with chores overnight, you'll be first on the mountain because you're the only ones on the mountain. Whether its the steeps of Craigieburn or the lake views of Ohau, these hidden snow gems are unique to New Zealand. Mt Potts is a heli and cat ski operation on a local farmers land with a basic overnight lodge and a private mountain an hour from Mt Hutt. It's more expensive than the traditional club field but still cheaper than a full heli ski operation and accesses similar terrain to the surrounding clubfields of the region. Colorado's Silverton lift accessed back country resort has based itself on the New Zealand clubfields, inspired by the accessible ungroomed terrain and down to earth nature.
